The New Orleans Hot Boys rapper released his fourth album on April 20th, 1999 on Cash Money. Only 18 years old at its release, Baby Gangsta was already an established artist at its release, with the album debuting at number 9 on the Billboard 200 for first week sales of over 140,000 copies. It was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America on December 23, 1999, with over one million copies sold in the United States.
