19 Mar Rapper Zu Hendrix Would Rather Become Hood Rich
Rochester rapper Zu Hendrix says that he would rather be hood rich than be in the music industry. He reenacts this sentiment in his new music video, “DEMON.”
In the video, Zu Hendrix portrays a robbery, where two people steal his bag containing money and a weapon while he is on the block in his neighborhood. He uses this single “Demon” as a metaphor for the music industry, where people are robbed of their money, talent, spiritual beliefs, faith in God, and even envied or hated on by other artists.
Zu Hendrix prefers being in the hood around people who risk their lives and freedom. He would rather be robbed by regular people from his neighborhood than by people in the industry whom he does not even know and who have never experienced his past.
Zu’s idea of being hood rich comes from the people he associates with and the environment he grew up in, which is the dangerous Jay St. and Orchard Street in Rochester, New York. He values his trust and liability there and feels he can do the same things in the hood as he would in the industry. He does not like the industry’s focus on money, critics, invading his personal life, and hashtags.
