The story follows Wendy Darling, a young girl who is reluctant to leave her childhood home, as she meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. Together with her brothers and the fairy Tinker Bell, Wendy is transported to the magical world of Neverland. There, they face off against the infamous pirate Captain Hook in a dangerous and thrilling adventure that will change their lives forever.

The cast includes Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, along with Jude Law, Alexander Molony, Ever Anderson, Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Joshua Pickering, Jacobi Jupe, Molly Parker, Alan Tudyk, and Jim Gaffigan. The movie is directed by David Lowery and produced by Jim Whitaker, with Adam Borba, Thomas M. Hammel, and Toby Halbrooks serving as executive producers. Fans of the classic tale and newcomers alike can look forward to this highly anticipated release.

The decision to cast a black actress in the iconic role has sparked controversy on social media, with some accusing Disney of prioritizing image over inclusivity. Critics argue that Tinker Bell has always been portrayed as a white girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, and that deviating from the original source material is a misstep. This debate echoes the backlash that arose when Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel in Disney’s upcoming remake of The Little Mermaid.

Peep some Twitter reactions below:

Disney couldn’t care less about making new stories with Poc characters, they just put poc ppl to play white characters, and that shows 1) how lazy Disney is 2) how racist this is, it’s like they don’t think poc ppl deserve their own stories (beside like 3 animated movies?)

but tinker bells iconic look is literally the blonde hair n blue eyes. nothing wrong with the loose representation but why keep changing shit that already has a staple look

The little mermaid is a mythical creature -no race involved. Tinker bell is also a mythical creature -no race involved. Yara Shahidi would be the cutest tinker bell. So called ‘black-washing’ isn’t a thing if the character your referring to HAS NO RACE CHILL PEOPLE https://t.co/Mw678Q6yA3

Yara Shahidi, is under attack along with Disney for her playing Tinkerbell. Apparently Tinkerbell shouldn’t be Black. A pixie is a fictional mythical character whose color is undetermined.

And it’s white children you say who don’t need to feel like their skin is less important? pic.twitter.com/TDHpV6EUwY
