27 Feb [DISCUSSION] Project Pat – Mista Don’t Play: Everythangs Workin (20 Years Later)
On February 27th, 2001, Memphis rapper Project Pat would release his second studio album, Mista Don’t Play: Everythangs Workin. The album was released by Hypnotize Minds, RED. and Loud, and was produced entirely by DJ Paul and Juicy J (Project Pat’s brother). Features on the album include all of Three 6 Mafia at that point (DJ Paul, Juicy J, Lord Infamous, Crunchy Black), as well as La Chat, T-Rock, Edgar Fletcher, and Namond Lumpkin. Some of the most notable songs off the album include Chickenhead (famously later sampled by Cardi B on Bickenhead), Don’t Save Her (with its hook later used by J Cole on No Role Modelz), Life We Live, If You Ain’t From My Hood, and Cheese and Dope (which got a remix in 2019 with Young Dolph and Key Glock).
The album would go on to peak at #4 on the Billboard Hot 200, and would become certified Gold by the RIAA by the end of March 2001.
