Hall of Famer and former home run king Henry Louis “Hank” Aaron has passed away at the age of 86.

CBS 46 reports the death of the Atlanta Braves legend, leaving in his remembrance an iconic legacy that is rooted in baseball.

Hank Aaron was born in Alabama in 1934 before emerging as a star in the Negro Leagues and minor leagues. At the age of 20, Aaron would make his Major League debut with the Milwaukee Braves cranking out .280 with 13 home runs and 69 RBIs.

In his fourth season, that homerun total ballooned to 44 home runs with 132 RBIs and an MVP award. He would go on to hit 25 home runs in every season he played, ending in 1973. He would break Babe Ruth’s home run record of 714 home runs on April 8, 1974. Aaron remains baseball’s runs batted in leader with 2,297 and total base leader with 6,856, an achievement earned while combatting racism throughout his career.

Rest in peace to the legend Henry “Hank” Aaron.
