Lizzo came under fire after sharing she was doing a smoothie detox. She heard the body shaming chatter and has responded with a powerful message everyone could use. Peep her body positive videos, with a serious dose of realism on how she really feels, plus Danielle Brooks’ solidarity post inside…
Lizzo eats a burger, cheese fries & a coke – “She needs to go on a diet!”
Lizzo makes healthier lifestyle changes – “OMG! She’s starving herself to lose weight.”
It’s seems like no matter what Lizzo does in terms of her health and weight, there’s always someone criticizing her for it. Our solution is for everyone to STFU all together if you’re negatively speaking on another person’s body, but what do we know?
The “Juice” singer received tons of backlash after she revealed her experience while following nutritionist JJ Smith’s smoothie cleanse. She shared a video on TikTok that was a montage of clips from the 10-day smoothie challenge that showed what she ate and drank during the detox. As a result, she said she felt “amazing.” You can check it out here.
She also shared progress videos on her IG REELS:
Folks quickly began to bash the 32-year-old Grammy Award winning singer for promoting extreme detoxing measures that could lead to “harmful” habits and they accused her of succumbing to “fat-shaming” culture.
After receiving all of the negative feedback, the “Truth Hurts” singer posted another video to explain why she decided to do the detox. Lizzo said she ate like crap last month and she wanted to do the detox as a way to “reset” and get back to eating healthy. It wasn’t about her losing weight fast or promoting unhealthy eating habits.
“So, I did the 10-day smoothie detox, and, as you know, I would normally be so afraid and ashamed to post things like this online because I feel like as a big girl, people just expect if you are doing something for health, you’re doing it for like, a dramatic weight loss and that is not the case,” she said.
”In reality, November stressed me the f*ck out,” she said.
The “Good As Hell” singer said she ate lot of spicy foods and she drank a lot as well, so she wanted to get rid of the toxins in her body. The detox helped cleanse her body and she’s happy with the results.
“I’m so proud of myself. I’m proud of my results; my sleep has improved, my hydration, my inner peace, my mental stability, my f*cking body, my f*cking skin,” she said.
What she does with her body and why is her business.
“I feel and look like a bad b*tch, and I think like, that’s it. I’m a big girl who did a smoothie detox, and I wanted to share that with you guys. I got exactly what I wanted out of it,” she continued.
”Every big girl should do whatever the f*ck they want with their bodies,” she concluded.
Folks want people to have confidence and believe they’re beautiful no matter what – even while they’re a work in prgress – and folks seem to hate when izzo does just that. Peep the video here.
Following up, Lizzo shared an IG Video where she reminds her followers that their bodies are perfect, and they’re allowed to do love themselves unconditionally. Check it:
In another post, she wrote:
”I detoxed my body and I’m still fat. I love my body and I’m still fat. I’m beautiful and I’m still fat. These things are not mutually exclusive. To the people who look to me, please do not starve yourselves. I did not starve myself. I fed myself greens and water and fruit and protein and sunlight. You don’t have to do that to be beautiful or healthy. That was my way. You can do life your way. Remember, despite anything anyone says or does. DO WHAT YOU WANT WITH YOUR BODY”
Following suit in solidarity…
”Orange Is The New Black” star & new mom Danielle Brooks shared a body positive photo of herself, defending Lizzo and getting candid about her own feelings towards her body as she struggles with post-pregnancy weight.
”As someone who coined the phrase #voiceofthecurves I’ve muted my voice for a few months now out of shame. I felt shameful of gaining weight. Even though I brought a whole human into the world, I still felt shameful because I wasn’t able to maintain my normal body weight post- pregnancy. And a year later i have only lost roughly 20lbs of a 60lb weight gain,” she wrote.
”I was quiet in hopes to post that snatch back photo like so many celebrities miraculously do. But that’s not my story. Just like Lizzo, and so many other “fat” girls we should be allowed to make healthy choices publicly without being made to feel like frauds for trying to be healthy. I feel it’s important to share the journey, as a reminder that we are not alone, we ain’t always got it together, and that we are ALL works in progress.”
”So I’m sharing. I’m doing all kinds of diets, cleanses, making all kinds healthy choices. Not because I don’t love myself now, but because I DO love myself, my body and my mind. Bc I want to continue to feel strong and sexy without catching “the sugars” or any other disease. It’s okay showing the in between of growth. You ain’t always gotta have it all the way together. Just speaking from the heart. ~Danie.”
Loves it. We’re all in this together, so it’s refreshing to see women publicly take up for one another while also baring their own inner feelings and thoughts that could help someone else through their struggle.
