Emerging alongside Jay-Z, when he was at the top of his game, Ja Rule spent his early career on top of the game. But, in 2000, he began to claim the spot for himself. His second album saw him create his own sound and win.
The following year, 2001, Ja Rule established himself as the biggest name in rap. Quickly, he crossed over, and began creating hits with Jennifer Lopez, topping Billboard. Early in 2002, “Always on Time,” featuring Ashanti, dropped, establishing that duo.
This afternoon, Verzuz announced Ashanti and Keyshia Cole would be their next battle. Quickly, Ja Rule began to dominate the conversation, on Twitter, as fans said Ashanti would win by playing her countless hits with Rule. Then, it became a discussion, from Charlie Puth, among others, about what Ja brought to the game.
