04 Dec Bashir Hogue: Bringing the Love Back to R&B
Bringing the love back to R&B is what Bashir Hogue states his latest album “Love Factor” is all about. Indeed, this album is filled with smooth love songs dedicated to honoring and respecting women everywhere.
We decided to sit down with Bashir Hogue for our readers to know more about him.
Who inspires you to write and sing music?
Bashir: It wouldn’t be a matter of who; however, it would be a matter of what. That thing is life. Life allows me to write about life. But as far as singing, my inspirations are Daryl Coley, Prince, Bilal, Sarah Vaughan, Kim Burrell, Sam Cooke, and Marvin Gaye.
What is your favorite song you have written, and why?
Bashir: My favorite song that I have written and love to sing is, “Glory to God.” I like this song because when I was on my deathbed, the Lord gave me this song to write. In 2005, the doctors gave me a 2% chance to live on a Wednesday night due to kidney failure, issues with my liver, multiple seizures, and comas. But while going through those traumatic experiences, the Lord allowed me to write this song. The song means that God gets the glory in every situation. “Let the weak say that I am strong. Let the poor say that I am rich, because of what the Lord has done for me” Those words are powerful.
What is your creative process?
Bashir: My writing process is to see something very unique and then write about it. It is also to experience something in life and then write about it and then think about it. That’s how I write and sing. I create through life situations.
Who would most likely collaborate with you?
Bashir: Richard Smallwood, Bilal, Jazmine Sullivan, Brandy, and HER.
What is the most useless talent you have?
Bashir: Basketball. I suck at playing basketball or any other sport there is, except for running track.
How has COVID 19 affected your career?
Bashir: COVID is a monster, and it tries to destroy anyone in its path. Covid has affected my traveling a bit, but not too much to the point a mask can’t be put on at events. But to be honest, it’s okay. I’m gonna start virtual concerts. So, it’s not as bad as it can be. That was an excellent question, especially for artists such as me.
How has the Internet helped your career during this pandemic?
Bashir: I find that because people are home and are working from home, they are on the Internet most of the time. So, when they’re on the Internet, they can see my album, and they can download it. So, so far, so good.
What well-known musician is your favorite?
Bashir: Teeya Skipper, Her, Pharrell Williams, Missy, and CeeLo Green. I know you said, “What well-known musicians,” but I couldn’t resist putting more.
How do you describe the sound you usually make?
Bashir: My sound is eclectic, unique, and soulful.
If you could change anything in the music industry, what would it be?
Bashir: Back then, you really had to sing because we didn’t have all the advanced technology that we have today in the studios. So, if I could change anything, I would change how people use technology to make people sound good but don’t really sound good in person. You asked. Lol.
What’s next for you?
Bashir: My Award-winning TV show is coming back–The Culture on CTFTV network. And I will be doing a virtual concert in February and putting out a video in December 2020. Also, I will be doing more recording and collaborations.
