French Artist, Akemi, Releases Debut EP, “Stages”

French indie-alternative artist and singer-songwriter Akemi has released her debut EP, “Stages.” The EP symbolizes the four different steps of a breakup; from a dreamy, nostalgic ballad reminiscent of the relationship to the dawn of new love, Akemi explores the various emotions of heartbreak.

Written and performed by Akemi herself, “Stages” is a fresh take on love, longing, and a broken heart. Her vibrant vocals take listeners on a lyrical journey through each stage of the relationship. “Stages” is Akemi’s first release since her self produced single “Moon 2.0”. She continues to grow dimensionally in this EP as well, having self-produced “Dreams” as well.

Being new to releasing her own music, Akemi’s current discography is small but these four tracks show immense depth and understanding of emotion through profound lyrics that remind us why quality surpasses quantity every time. Akemi appeals to a universal audience with songs like “Don’t Try” that explore post-breakup confidence with an upbeat sound and lyrics celebrating the single life.

Akemi says: “The order of the songs was the most important thing to me in creating this EP. It goes from heartbreak to nostalgia then anger, and finally–moving on. I want my listeners to be able to connect to the track that lines up with the stage they are in at that moment and then continue helping them through the rest of the stages.”

Akemi is a self-taught, aspiring musician from Paris. Based in Boston, she uses her music as a way to express her state of mind and her emotions. Inspired by Dua Lipa, Madison Beer and Charlotte Lawrence, she takes on a fresh approach to pop. Always being interested in music she started taking it seriously at the age of 16 by doing covers with only a piano and a microphone, she now is writing original songs with an array of instruments including piano, guitar and ukulele. She decided to apply for Berklee college for music and used whether she got in as a decision for continuing music seriously or giving up. She’s now devoted to music full time and it’s defining who she is.
