The nominees for the 2021 GRAMMY Awards were announced today and there were plenty of surprises. Among them were The Weeknd not receiving any nominations and now, Lil Baby not being nominated for Rap Album Of The Year for his ‘My Turn’ project.
Baby was nominated for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song but it was definitely a shocker that one of the highest selling albums of 2020 disks drake the list for Best Rap Album. The other nominees were Nas’ ‘King’s Disease,’ ‘Black Habits’ by D Smoke, ‘Alfredo’ by Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist, and ‘The Allegory’ by Royce Da 5’9.
Pierre “Pee” Thomas, CEO of Quality Control Music, took to Twitter to voice his displeasure of Baby not scoring this nomination.
“Whoever making the decisions at the Grammys “You all disconnected like a mf” you don’t speak for our culture. Congrats to all the nominees. #MyTurnAlbumOfTheYear”
My Turn debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart back at the end of February. It’s been certified 2x platinum in the US and was led by hits such as “Woah,” “Sum 2 Prove” and “We Paid” feat. 42 Dugg.
