03 Jan Ahmaud Arbery Murder Suspects Ask That Ahmaud Is Not Referred To As A ‘Victim’ During The Upcoming Trial
With the murder trial for Ahmaud Arbery approaching, the murder suspects, Travis and Greg McMichael have some requests before everything begins.
According to TMZ, the McMichael’s, who are responsible for murdering Ahmaud, have filed new motions, which include stopping the prosecution from ever referring to Ahmaud as a victim in front of the jury. The reason for their request is, they believe a conclusion can’t be determined before a verdict.
In the documents obtained by the site, the McMichael’s are sticking to their claim that no crime was committed, therefore, “loaded words” like “victim” might prejudice jurors against them from the start of the trial. They reportedly continued to state that they want “neutral language” used as they believe they haven’t done anything wrong.
They have already pleaded not guilty and argued self-defense in the case.
The murder suspects have also asked that only one “in life” photo be allowed at trial to depict Ahmaud, and they would like for him to be alone in the photo and not with any family members or friends. The defense has also asked that no family member of his be able to identify him in court. They reportedly don’t want any family members to identify him, that way they avoid any outbursts that could impact the jurors.
They reportedly also asked that no Black Lives Matter masks be worn within the court room, any jail calls they’ve made be stricken as usable evidence, and that Amaud’s criminal record be allowed.
The date for the trial has yet to be set, and a judge has yet to weigh in on their requests.
