Many wondered if the late Pop Smoke would get nominated for the 2021 GRAMMYs after the huge year he had posthumously. Even 50 Cent questioned if this could happen due to drill rappers not being popular mainstream wise. Smoke was originally shot and killed in February in a Hollywood Hills home owned by former ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills‘ star, Teddi Mellencamp and her husband, Edwin Arroyave.
Now, there is very good news coming for Smoke’s family and friends as he just scored a huge Grammy nomination. This is the category for Best Rap Performance. This is for one of his 2019 breakout hit singles,”Dior.” Other nominees include Big Sean’s “Deep Reverence” feat. Nipsey Hussle, DaBaby’s “BOP,” “WHAT’S POPPIN” by Jack Harlow, “The Bigger Picture” by Lil Baby, and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage” remix feat. Beyoncé.
Dior originally appeared on the Brooklyn rapper’s debut mixtape, ‘Meet The Woo,’ in the summer of 2019. The remix featuring Gunna was released on his ‘Meet The Moo 2‘ mixtape this past February. The original version of Dior has also been certified 2x platinum by the RIAA.
