26 Nov 10 Things To Know About: Greta Jaime
London-based alt-pop newcomer Greta Jaime unveils her latest single ‘Act One’, the fifth track taken from her debut EP of the same title, released earlier this month.
Exploring universal themes, ‘Act One’ is the perfect synth-laden track to be added to those heartbreak playlists.
Speaking of her single, Greta said: ““The song is about dealing with the pain of knowing a relationship needs to end but that it won’t yet. The theatre metaphor is something I explore throughout the EP as it felt like a fitting way to capture the drama in relationships that often lack honesty. The track came about as a very simple piano demo and I worked throughout the production process to offset the sadder lyrics with more upbeat and dynamic rhythms.”
Intrigued by her artistry, we asked Greta to tell us 10 unknown facts about herself.
- A lot of my songs have themes around technology (Computer Games/ Internet Love/ TV for Strangers) because I feel like it’s an interesting theme to talk a lot about and also because I’m a slight tech nerd.
- My dream collab would be with Jessie Reyez, she has such an eclectic discography and her tone is so unique.
- I was a guitarist first and played for others and actually started singing because I got tired of singers going out of time.
- Outside of music, I watch stand-up comedy the most – I have a lot of admiration for comedians and think so many of them are extremely clever.
- I think pop music gets a bad reputation and is still sometimes seen as vacuous but I think a lot of the simplicity in it is deeply complex.
- When I was 8 I won a poetry competition, after submitting a poem on a whim and it got published. One of my songs (Static) actually started as a poem for another competition.
- I wish more artists followed some of the attitudes/ethos seen in hip hop, not bragging about money or cars, but releasing music when they want, creative formats like mixtapes, and also just general confidence and pride in their work.
- When I produce/ record my songs I like adding hidden easter eggs in the productions. There’s a voice-note of my dad’s friend laughing really hard in my song Internet Love and on the EP there are a few other different sounds I’ve recorded over the last year on my phone.
- I’ve always been compared to so many different musicians/singers which I like because there is never really any consistent trends.
- I never really watched too much TV when I was younger but the only programme I made a lot of time for was Hannah Montana which… actually explains a lot.
