Virtuoso Verses Violators

What happens when you put a master VirtuosoRandy Edelman, one of the greatest composers of modern times, possibly of all times, alongside The Violators Unlimited, A group of 6 men, Darryl Thompson, Chris Ali, Fred Jacobs, David Cumberbatch, Harry Hero Samo, and Mark Shelby, that have formulated a brotherhood throughout their lives, who mutually share a passion for the hip-hop culture?” You get a barrage of talent that escapes and defies all rules. Where originality and creativity is a divine attribute, individuality, and imagination are key.

The Violators Unlimited Radio show was prepared to have a conversation with composer Randy Edelman regarding his vast Hollywood soundtrack film career. Having scored over 100 classic and acclaimed films and television shows including: “My Cousin Vinny”, “Last of the Mohicans”, “Dragonheart”, Ghostbusters ll”, “XXX”, “Billy Madison”, “While You Were Sleeping”, the NBC hit series “MacGyver”, the Olympics, and a unicorn marathon of others, it made perfect sense to talk about these soundtracks….

But what materialized next topped the charts of OMG, WTF just happened? Perhaps you might think him an unlikely guest for a hip hop themed radio show, but Randy prevailed!….As a pop artist Randy has celebrated  several of his own hit recordings (“Concrete and Clay”, “Uptown Uptempo Woman”,  “Pretty Girls”), but has also written many of the iconic songs recorded by superstars in the music industry exampling “A Weekend In New England” by Barry Manilow. Another global hit recorded by Patti LaBelle is called “Isn’t It A Shame.”

By some insane twist of fate someone was randomly listening to “Isn’t It A Shame” in their basement and somehow sent it to rapper icon Nelly. The hip hop star called it “My Place” and Randy’s song became the lead single on Nelly’s 4th studio album (which featured R&B singer Jaheim). An overnight hip hop phenomena it reached #1 on the charts in the US, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and charted on nearly every other country on the planet.

As a composer Randy Edelman is rooted in the heart and receives impressions through the ear. The fire that animates him carries him away, irreversibly to seek his own flight orbit. He owns the divine authority to create the novelty and the development of music fashion. As artists both The Violators Unlimited and the maestro Randy Edelman both have a vested interest in our believing in the flash, revelation, and inspiration of the poetry and the music shining down from heaven, as a ray of grace. But mostly they are both cool.

The Violators Unlimited radio broadcasts every Saturday from 4 to 6 and Randy Edelman will be performing live on St. Patrick’s Day March 17 at Chelsea Table in Stage in New York City
