Not a day goes by that I don’t feel the loss. I just find better ways to cope with it. Missed and loved but appreciated for the time we did have with you. Your spirit lives on in your music and your legacy lives on through your kids. The trillest ever born. They’ll never be another. Love you bro. And it’s still UGK For Life! #LongLiveThePimp

Bun B and Pimp C knew each other since childhood. They formed UGK in 1987 and released their first album in 1992 when they were still teenagers. Their most popular feature was Big Pimpin and their most popular song where they weren’t the featured stars was International Players Anthem. It is still my favorite wedding related song ever.

Pimp C passed away six months after the music video for International Players Anthem was released. The song was a big deal in Summer 2007 and many people believed UGK’s best days were supposed to come soon after that. Nobody will ever know what would’ve happened if he didn’t pass when he did.

He was a legend in Texas and Southern rap as a whole. He influenced artists like Megan Thee Stallion, whose Tina Snow moniker is a play on Tony Snow, one of Pimp C’s many aliases. His death left a sizable hole in the Texas rap scene and in the hearts of his many fans. The words Bun B posted are the words that UGK fans have been feeling a lot over the last 15 years, including me. There will never be another Sweet James Jones.
