Melania Trump Breaks Silence After Capitol Riot To Mourn Loss Of Lives, Fails To Place Blame On Her Husband

The first lady of the United States is speaking out days after a deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol claimed the lives of five people. Melania Trump is getting her fair share of criticism this morning for failing to acknowledge Donald Trump’s part in the insurrection that took place Wednesday. In a statement she released through the White House website Monday, Melania said her heart goes out to the five people that died, placing the Trump supporters who passed away before the officers who died–one of whom was attacked by the rioters.

“Most recently, my heart goes out to: Air Force Veteran, Ashli (Babbitt), Benjamin (Phillips), Kevin Greeson, (Roseanne) Boyland, and Capitol Police Officers, Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood. I pray for their families comfort and strength during this difficult time,” she said.

Melania also got fired up over “salacious gossip” about her, likely in reference to a CNN report that she was doing a furniture photo shoot when all the violence was going down Wednesday.

“I find it shameful that surrounding these tragic events there has been salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks, and false misleading accusations on me — from people who are looking to be relevant and have an agenda. This time is solely about healing our country and its citizens. It should not be used for personal gain,” Melania, whose “Be Best” platform centers on civility and kindness, said in the post.

But she wanted to make it clear that she condemned the events at the capitol: “Make no mistake about it, I absolutely condemn the violence that has occurred on our Nation’s Capitol. Violence is never acceptable,” she wrote.

She didn’t once mention Donnie or any responsibility he had in gaslighting his supporters but instead described what led to the violence as “passion and enthusiasm.”

“It is inspiring to see that so many have found a passion and enthusiasm in participating in an election, but we must not allow that passion to turn to violence,” she said.
