Hoodology – is the scientific study of hoods in America.
Hoodologist – an expert in or a student of hoodology. Hoodologists study the cultures, identities, human behaviors, social interactions and economic systems within the hood.
Hood – (physical place) poverty-stricken; mostly inner-city/metropolitan; consists of rundown buildings, broken sidewalks and graffiti tagging. It is overpopulated, often with multiple families living in a single-bedroom apartment. Rows of apartment complexes that are lower in rent and cheap houses are the norm. Liquor stores, good food and small markets.
Hood Culture – bold, proud and relentless, made up of marginalized individuals with eclectic styles (often categorized as streetwear) and confident demeanors that create a unique type of swag in the midst of extreme poverty, struggle and high crime rates. Includes positive attributes such as resilience, loyalty and inner-strength.
Hood Identity – is a construct that refers to one’s sense of self as a member or past member of a hood.
Ghettology – is the scientific study of ghettos.
Ghettologist – an expert in or a student of ghettology. Ghettologists study the cultures, identities, human behaviors, social interactions and economic systems within the ghetto.
Ghetto – (physical place) poverty-stricken; inner-city/metropolitan but can also include rural areas. Shares definition of the hood. Also, consists of dilapidated houses, multiple family members under one roof, and underdeveloped.
Ghetto Culture – oppressed and marginalized population tied to negative stereotypes deriving from gangs, thugs, crime, violence, lack of self-awareness and respect, and domestic drama. Absence of positive attributes.
